President
Goodluck Jonathan, on Monday 11th November, honoured Bill
Gates, a co-Chairman of Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, with a national
honor of Commander of the Federal Republic (CFR).
President Jonathan said the honour was in recognition of his support towards the eradication of Poliomyelitis in Nigeria; adding that he would be conferred with the national honour alongside other awardees in December.
Bill Gates has, through his foundation, been involved in several interventions for the eradication of polio in Nigeria.
On Monday, the billionaire and Nigerian officials presented awards to the seven governors of states which won the 2012 Immunisation Leadership Challenge instituted by the Nigeria Governors Forum (NGF) and sponsored by the Gates Foundation. Also, Ondo, Cross River, Kogi, Anambra, Borno, Zamfara and Niger states will each be receiving a huge sum of $500,000 grant for health related projects.
